Snoop Dogg has spent decades moving between rapper, entertainer, businessman, television personality and cultural ambassador. At the 2026 VMAs, he added another role: host.

The three-time VMA winner anchored the September 27 ceremony from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, a show built around both current stars and artists with deep MTV history.

Snoop’s presence made sense for a ceremony that repeatedly connected generations. Madonna opened the show after a 23-year absence from the VMA performance stage. Nirvana received the Video Vanguard. Taylor Swift received the first Artist Director Honors. Cardi B and Kehlani won Best Hip-Hop. BTS won Song of the Year, Best K-Pop and Best Group.

Paramount’s official production credits also list Snoop Dogg as an executive producer, giving him a role behind the scenes as well as in front of the camera.

Amplifier Take: Snoop’s greatest asset as a host is familiarity. He can stand next to pop stars, rock legends or a new rapper without looking like he wandered into somebody else’s show. For a VMAs built around multiple eras of music, that was useful casting.
